How SLT Solved the Challenge of Relocating a Foundry to a New Workshop Due to the Unsafe Condition of the Customer’s Facility
SLT presented a case study entitled “Relocation of Foundry Production to a New Workshop Due to the Unsafe Condition of Load-Bearing Steel Structures.”
Receiving an order from Rostechnadzor prohibiting the operation of a workshop is always a serious challenge for production. This is especially true when every day counts and a production line shutdown could result in failure to fulfil a government order or contractual obligations, SLT writes. The company faced a similar challenge at a major engine manufacturing plant. The situation was critical: outdated tooling, equipment that had reached the end of its service life, and a strict prohibition on relocating the old equipment.
How SLT solved the problem within a short timeframe:
Preserving the technology: the existing production process was left unchanged. Equipment using Cold-Box-Amin and Hot-Box technologies was selected to fully match the customer’s existing tooling.
Parallel work: while the plant was preparing the new premises, SLT manufactured and assembled the core-making machines and mixer.
Seamless transition: installation and commissioning were carried out in such a way that the old workshop remained operational until the very end, while the new workshop immediately began operating at full capacity.
The result for the customer:
- Core production was relocated without changing the technology or requiring shutdowns for adjustment.
- Manual labour and noise levels were reduced.
- Costs associated with disposing of the old equipment and relocating it were avoided.
