Severstal becomes the first company in Russia to produce cold-formed piling

Severstal was the first in Russia to produce a new sheet piling solution for hydraulic structures, transport and civil engineering - cold-formed sheet piling. The product is marketed under the Grani brand.

One of the main advantages of the new type of sheet piling is lower metal intensity compared to alternative solutions due to constant profile thickness and increased width, which allows to reduce the weight of supplied structures by up to 30%. The piles are manufactured by cold forming (cold bending), which ensures high speed of production and delivery to the construction site. The design capacity of the production line is up to 60 thousand tonnes per year.

Grani cold-formed sheet piling is the optimum solution for low and medium load applications and can be used in the construction of excavations, retaining walls, bridge abutments, roads and embankments.

Tests carried out by the Research Institute for Transport Engineering have confirmed the high turnover rate of the product, which is comparable to that of hot-rolled analogues, as well as the high strength of the structure and the interlocking joints. Grani sheet piles have already been successfully used in the construction of a production complex in St Petersburg, and there is experience in exporting the product.

There is a continued high demand for traditional hot-rolled sheet piles of the trough type in Russia, with some volumes being imported. In return, Severstal offered the domestic product Grani, a cost-effective yet efficient solution for infrastructure projects. As a result, we have expanded our sheet pile product offering to include GraniPro multifaceted sheet pile, a Russian alternative to Larsen sheet pile, but with variability in geometric characteristics and the ability to be customised for specific projects, as well as pipe sheeting.
